    Good question! Im not sure on this, I will have a look on the offical forums, but im guessing that this may now be possible! Nearly every game on steam is playable in a multiplayer mode. Steam has always put a big emphasis onto there multiplayer framework always selling itself with the automatic updates etc. I shall have a look into that for you!
