Operation Flashpoint 2!

Due to the gaming scene this last year being very much boring with regards to first person shooters, I’ve not bothered playing much, but since the talk of this this game has sprung up online, its had me by the hairs on my neck! I remember playing this the first time around and loving every minute of the game, and with modern graphic cards being more than brilliant for these kinds of games, I can only asume that this is going to be the Game of the Year for me!

When i say It looks absolutly brilliant, I feel this is an understatement! For those of you who didnt play the first version of Operation Flashpoint back in 2001 this will for me be the next BF2142! (If not better!)  To actually get a feel for the game there is a few things that need to be said... This is a FPS combat simulation game. E.G You have no hidden pockets on you as a player, everything you carry is on you’re back. To reload a weapon will actually take as long as it should in a real life situation. So an RPG reload can take a good 30 seconds and you get an actual sequence of you relaoding it. So if you’re not in a position to reload, you will need to fall back and reload and move up again to take the shot! (Class!)

About the surroundings, The map is a real island based near Japan (So i’ve been told) and takes a good 9 hours and 30 minutes to walk from one side to the other. If you take this same trip by the fastest means of transport in the game (Chopper) it will still take a good 16~18 minutes to do this depending on the time of day and the conditions!

    About the game:

    • The most realistic modern military shooter: Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising will deliver the most accessible, engaging and visceral sandbox shooter of the year, with a huge variety of tactics and over 100 authentically modeled vehicles and weapons. Authentic cutting-edge weaponry is simulated with detailed ballistic physics and players will command and control a wide variety of multi-component, multi-weapon vehicles, including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, APCs, attack and utility helicopters. The character catastrophic damage system authentically depicts the terrible wounds and injury from modern weapons to communicate the lethality of combat.
    • Freedom of Play: Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising will give players the freedom to handle military crisis situations on their initiative. Unscripted missions will task players with real objectives, such as laying down covering fire, covering a friendly unit’s retreat or conducting short-range recon patrol. Armed with cutting edge military hardware, players will need to balance brute force with intelligent use of tactics.
    • Squad-Based Combat: As an epic single and multi-player campaign weaves the narrative, players will fight as infantry soldiers in battle, drive tanks in armored assaults, and infiltrate the enemy in covert special operations utilizing a wide variety of realistic military weapons from knives and rifles to machine guns and grenade launchers.
    • Redefines the Size of Battle: the 220km2 island of Skira gives players a multitude of tactical decisions on how to best accomplish missions. Densely packed with environment detail and objects, valleys, mountains, coastlines, towns, villages and industrial complexes all combine to deliver a rich and challenging tactical environment.
    • Extensive PVP and Co-Op support, with options to play through the campaign co-operatively with up to 3 friends, as well as varied multiplayer PVP game modes catering for up to 8 players on console and 32 players on PC.

    PC Specs

    • Operating system: Windows XP SP2 or later

Guys guys guys! This game is freaking amazing!

Im already ording new parts so it plays alot smoother!

My PC spec is good apart from CPU, My Core 2 Duo 2.4ghz dual core is bare minimum and it stutters!

Im looking at Q9550S 2.83GHZ, 1333MHZ FSB, L2 CACHE 12MB, But for this to work with my motherboard i need to Flash my BIOS, which needs a Floppy drive... I thru out all my floppy drivers, so if anyone has one plus a floppy disk could they dig it out for us all to update our BIOS’s with? :D

Anyone who bought the ASUS board that i have, (P5 and above) can update and it will run the latest processes.

I think this applies to me phil, craig and adam.

3 years with only a couple of sticks of RAM being added to my PC and its still at good spec until now LOL (not done to bad!)

£250 is the cheapest i’ve found the Q9550S so if anyone see’s it cheaper can you let me know?

    Cheers
    Dan.

Looks like the beanz since the new i7 CPU’s are the business for gaming now. The Core 2 Duo quad will work, but i wanted to see something a little more powerfull... :D

omg lads i’ve just spent 4 hours overclocking my current CPU

    Its my...
    E6600 Core 2 Duo @ 2.4ghz (clock speed @ 1.6ghz)

I’ve managed to get it running stable at
    E6600 Core 2 Duo @ 2.4ghz (clock speed @ 3.2ghz)

I’ve since dropped it down as this is all on the stock heat sink and fan and i dont wanna pop it, so its now running at 2.7ghz and Operation flashpoint runs fine as pie! :D

Im just going to get a new heat sink and fan instead of a CPU, this is the cheaper option, but well worth it.

3.2 ghz from a 1.6ghz chipset is insane! Its been done all over the internet, i’ve just never really looked into doing it up until now lol! I’ve just set mine back to 2.8bhz, Im going to order a new HS + Fan and then i’ll set it back to 3.2ghz :)
